I have some exciting news to share with you regarding the expansion of Natick Summer Learning programs. However, I must first announce that our Summer Academics & Enrichment directors, Dan Hausermann and Eric Fries, have both stepped down from their director positions.  They did an extraordinary job with the summer program, and they set the foundation for the expansion of our programs.  Thank you, Dan and Eric, for your service to summer learning.

Leadership Team

I am pleased to announce that three Natick educators will lead the summer learning program this year. Rasheedah Clayton, METCO director, Tina Kelly, middle school math department head, and Christina Maryland, communications director have administrative strengths and perspectives across the organization that will make our programs great.

Paul Tagliapietra, Brown School special education coordinator will continue to be the director of the PreK–adult special education summer program. He will work with families through school based summer placement decisions at the school level.

Brenna Turner will expand her role as the K-8 Title I director. Previously she served as the K-4 Title I coordinator and her role is being expanded as director to incorporate middle school needs for students who need intervention level instruction

Christy Arnold, Brown School assistant principal and K-12 EL coordinator, we lead the launch of our summer English learner program.

Kevin Casey, Wilson Middle School math teacher, will lead the Natick High credit recovery program. He will work closely with the Natick High counselors and department heads to facilitate recovery learning for students who failed classes during the 2020-2021 school year.

Summer Enrichment Program (For all students rising to grades 1-12)

Due to COVID-19 last year, we were unable to offer enrichment programming. However, we are happy to share that this year, summer enrichment is back! We will be offering in-person enrichment programming this summer for rising first-grade (kindergarten students entering the first-grade in 2021-2022) to rising twelfth-grade students. This program will be held IN-PERSON ONLY.

Registration and course sign-up info, as well as the program fee schedule will be shared in April (prior to April break.) TAKE OUR PARENT SURVEY!

Summer Scholars Program (For all students rising to grades 1-12)

Natick Summer Academics has been renamed and is now Summer Scholars! Last year we had over 1200 students enroll in the Summer Scholars which was an online academic program based on priority standards for literacy and math. As part of our curriculum recovery plan, these courses will be crafted from the priority standards identified through common assessments and teacher feedback. We will offer in-person and online classes for rising first-graders through twelfth graders. In addition, Natick High students will have the opportunity to participate in content seminars, course preparation sessions, fine and performing arts workshops, and physical fitness activities. TAKE OUR PARENT SURVEY!

Title I Summer Academics (Rising 1st through 9th students)
This year we are expanding Title I instruction to rising ninth graders to give our students additional support in learning recovery due to COVID. This program is a referral-only, no cost program. Teachers and administrators at each school will make recommendations for students to be invited to participate in the program. The Title I program director, Mrs. Turner, will connect with parents and families directly regarding enrollment.

English Learner Summer Program (For all students rising to grades K-12)

We are extremely excited about the launch of the English Learner Summer Program. This program will serve students in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade who need academic instruction in developing English language skills.  This program is intended to accelerate the progress of English language acquisition in our students who are developing mastery of the English language.

PreK-Adult Special Education Program

This year our special education program will run as it has in the past to support preschool to adult students. This program is a referral-only, no cost program. Teachers and administrators at each school will make recommendations for students to be recommended  to participate in the program through their IEP team. The special education program director, Mr. Tagliapietra, will connect with parents and families directly regarding enrollment.

Credit Recovery (Natick High students)

Students enrolled in the credit recovery program will take courses using the Edgenuity platform and tailored to Natick academic curriculum standards. Students will be referred for credit recovery if they failed a class that is a graduation requirement. In addition, we will offer credit recovery in-person for students who failed a physical education course.

Program dates for all summer programs are July 6th through August 5th, Monday-Thursday.

Thank you for your attention to this and stay tuned for more to come.
