2/5/21 Superintendent & COVID Tracking Update

2/5/21 Superintendent & COVID Tracking Update
Posted on 02/05/2021
We aspire to move more kids into full time live learning (our special education and educator students have been in full live instruction all year--roughly 23.5% of our student body attend full time) and now we want to phase back in the rest.
So, all of our current time is being dominated by planning the new pool/surveillance testing we will now offer to all staff and parents. This will occur ASAP (if DESE gets moving—they are sometimes slow to move!) and it will give us the baseline infection information to determine if the removal any of our protections (e.g. distancing or changing busing etc.) results in worsening infection rates.
So, we are moving in the background to get us all back as soon as possible. What can you do?
  1. Check out Project Beacon, the company with whom we have been paired. You will need, eventually, to set up an account there (new and different from any account you may already have with them). Parental consent forms will be located there and all pool testing results will flow through it.
  2. Email Dr. Nolin an annolin@natickps.org if you are willing to volunteer on a regular basis — Tuesdays for NHS, Wednesdays for all other schools and Friday and Saturday for additional pool testing follow-up clinics. Volunteers would help swab noses of little people (PK, K, 1) with proper PPE and help us scan barcodes. Friday/Saturday clinics will be at NHS and will be to help manage follow-up testing for those identified in infected pools. We will provide PPE and training for all roles.
Have a great weekend.
JOIN US! KMS Principal Search
Parent Forum on February 23 @ 7pm
As you know, Andy Zitoli has announced that he will be retiring at the end of this school year. While we will celebrate his service and accomplishments in the spring, now is time to begin the process to select his successor.
Dr. Nolin and I (HR Director, Marianne Davis) invite you to meet with us on Tuesday, February 23rd at 7 p.m. to review the search process and to hear your feedback about important qualities, experience and competencies you will be looking for in the new Kennedy principal. We are also excited to hear your thoughts about short and long term priorities that you believe should be set for Kennedy, and guided by the new principal.
Here are links to the search timeline and process. The school council will be reaching out to parents and faculty, seeking volunteers to serve on the interviewing committee on 3/11 and 3/12.

NEW! Natick School and District Report Cards

NEW! NPS Report on Student Progress (ROSP) Parent Communication
On Friday, January 29, 2021, your child’s report on student progress (ROSP) became available to view in the parent portal of PowerSchool. The ROSP is a year-long document based on what we want our students to know and be able to do by the conclusion of the 2020-2021 school year. The January report is designed as a formative progress report on year-end standards.
How is my child doing?
Many parents have written to us asking, "How do I know how my child is doing?" Please join us for a discussion with the Natick School Committee on Monday, February 8th to learn more about the things we are doing in Natick to monitor student progress and provide instructional support through this challenging period in our community, nation and world. The first semester has now ended, and we are steeped in data analysis to understand the impact of remote/hybrid learning for our students. You will learn how we use common assessment data based on standards to identify learning deficits, how we communicate those deficits to families, and the processes our schools used to create goal attainment plans for students to solve learning struggles. Here is a link to the Natick School Committee Agenda. Together with our principals and all educators in Natick, we are here to serve you and the learning needs of your children. See you on Monday night!
Natick Learning Recovery Program Plan
As discussed in previous emails, we are sharing our Natick Recovery Learning Program Plan with you.
To participate in the program, students will be referred by a teacher to school administration and program coordinators. Parents will be notified of the referral by the referring teacher and the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation.
This document is also linked on our Parent Academy page on the website at natickps.org/parents.
Important note: The winter/spring learning recovery program is separate from the learning and enrichment programming that we will offer to students for the summer. Summer programming will have open enrollment.
